Situated in the Sukhumvit area, off Soi 11 (hence the name) is the popular Above Eleven Bangkok on the 33rd floor of the Fraser Suites. Upon arrival on a Friday night at 10pm it was busy with a lively atmosphere and a musician playing the saxophone.
With the bar as the centerpiece of the venue, and high stools and tables surrounding the outside, Above Eleven Bangkok is a classy venue without being too pretentious. We booked a table overlooking Bangkok with views towards Siam and the shopping malls and started off with a couple of cocktails to get the night going. We had the Cuzco With Love: Bacardi Ocho Rum, Noilly Prat, Edible Rose Flower, Giffard Raspberry, Dry Roses, Angostura Bitter, Pineapple & Lemon Juice. It was beautifully presented and refreshing without being too sweet. We also sampled the Rohito: Grey Goose Vodka, Watermelon Liqueur, Passion Fruit Juice & Giffard Vanilla.
As we had already eaten dinner we had to sadly turn down the delicious sounding Peruvian and Japanese cuisine that Above Eleven Bangkok offers. However, our eyes lit up at the desserts and we decided to try the Churros With Chocolate Sauce: Crispy cinnamon sugar coated churros, chocolate sauce and the Peruvian Alfajor: majarblanco, milk ice cream, cinnamon crumble. The churros were absolutely fantastic with a decent amount of chocolate sauce and the Peruvian Alfajor was so sweet, smooth and mourish! Definitely a dish I need to order in London.
Given Above Eleven Bangkok is a Peruvian / Japanese restaurant and bar, we just had to try the sake. With over 10 quality sakes to choose from, we were recommended the lighter, more citrus based ones, to compliment our desert. Served with a mini sake cup and jug, typically Japanese style, the sakes were light and refreshing after the dessert and certainly much better than some of the ones I drank in Japan!
Above Eleven is absolutely worth a visit when in Bangkok – partying on a rooftop is not something I regularly do in London so it felt like a real treat here. With salsa nights on Wednesdays and a Jazz Band on Thursday’s it offers something a little bit different. Great food, views, cocktails and staff, make Above Eleven a winning combination.
