Restaurants in Reykjavik – Kopar
I was sold on Kopar Restaurant when I knew it was situated by the beautiful harbour of Reykjavik. There was a gorgeous terrace area on both sides of the restaurant which would be amazing if had been slightly warmer than -5! Lucky for me, the restaurant area was lovely with rustic and warm decoration – wooden beams, plants and exposed bricks – it felt like a relaxed place to dine. The service was friendly from the beginning as our waitress talked us through the menu.
Kopar offers a great choice of brasserie style Icelandic appetizers / small plates as well as larger main courses. Whilst we were choosing out food, we were served with some warm bread and butter sprinkled with liquorice salt – it may sound strange but it was AMAZING and make the bread a little sweeter. We also had a couple of glasses of champagne (it was my birthday after all) followed by a glass of Merlot and a fantastic Amaretto based cocktail.
We were offered a set menu (which changes weekly) which consisted of 2 x appetisers, 1 main and 1 dessert which sounded great. Alongside the set menu for one person, we decided to try another couple of dishes. The set menu started with Crunchy and Spicy Langoustine Wraps served with pickled red onions and chilli mayo and the Crispy Duck Spring Rolls with a sticky date sauce and a juicy apple and pecan salad. Both were fantastic but the duck spring rolls really stood out to me – absolutely filled to the brim with delicious duck they were by far the best I have ever had before. We also tried the Crab Cakes – spicy crab cakes with a crunchy exterior, served with fluffy remoulade, which tasted incredible with just the perfect level of spice.
Following these gorgeous appetizers, the set menu served Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Hasselback potato & poached egg with bearnaise foam, pickled red onion & fried eggplant and the Zucchini Spaghetti Style with Chick Pea Balls accompanied by roasted cherry tomatoes & generous shavings of parmeggiano and basil. The beef was so tender and the potato with the bernaise foam absolutely wonderful. The Zucchini spaghetti was well presented but I would have preferred it to be harder in texture – the chick pea balls (falafel) were bursting with flavour though.
The set menu ended with the Chocolate Tart – Dark chocolate filling on a coconut – almond crust served with a blueberry sorbet & cocoa nibs which, just like the rest of the meal, was stunning.
Absolutely loved our dining experience at Kopar and would thoroughly recommend!
