Bars in Riga

A selection of the bars I visited in Riga are detailed below:

Skyline Bar

Situated on the 26th floor of the Radisson Blu just north of the Freedom Monument is Skyline Bar. Offering beautiful 360 degree views of the city, Skyline offers tables by the windows and long rows of seating all facing towards the views.

There are a wide range of cocktails on offer at Skyline which are reasonably priced between €9 and €12. We tried a Raspberry Gin Sour: Hendrick’s Gin, raspberry syrup, lemon juice, raspberries which was really refreshing. We also tried Angel Falls served in a pineapple with Venezuelan and spiced rum, mango, passionfruit, pineapple, lime, agave and bitters. Great selection of cocktails on the menu and a bottle of prosecco was only around €30, which is a bargain.

We had some food from the tapas menu at Skyline and particularly liked the KFC-Korean Fried Chicken with dragon sauce. Skyline is one of the most beautiful bars to visit in Riga for views and cocktails and definitely worth a stop in.

Cartel Bar

Cartel Bar is where the guys from 3 Pavari recommended that we visit after dinner. Conveniently located only 1 minute down the road, we topped up our wine, cocktails and black balsam from dinner with more cocktails from Cartel.

Sitting at the bar watching Emile make cocktails to our liking was fantastic. My friend asked for a gin based cocktail that was sour. As Emile was making it she was questioning whether she should have been clearer about what she wanted e.g. not a negroni (!). However, Emile delivered and she said it was one of the best gin cocktails that she has tasted. I loved my amaretto based cocktail with limoncello (two of my favourite drinks!).

Cartel is a small underground bar with a DJ and seating around the edge with a fun atmosphere. Don’t forget the epic happy hours early evening and then again between midnight and one. Grab the 241 cocktails!

Flying Frog

Situated in the Ark Noveau district is the Flying Frog bar and restaurant. Given the sun was out we scoped out a couple of seats outside and had a beer and wine which came to a modest 7 euros. The interior of the restaurant looked lovely as did the food.

Rock Cafe Riga

Ignore google when it says that rock cafe is only open until midnight – it lies! Their live music venue is open until 6am on Fridays and Saturdays. It was a bit of a maze when we arrived as there were a number of rooms and different floors.

We tried to go upstairs but were told that we had to put our coats in the cloakroom downstairs. It was free to be fair! After making our way upstairs there was a room with a bar and then the main dance floor and stage.

We arrived around 1am and it was busy with the DJ playing current commercial songs. At around 2am, to my joy, a band came out playing more indie songs. We had such a fun night dancing around and would definitely recommend this place!! Drinks didn’t break the bank at around 4 euro for a beer or wine.

Folkklubs

I absolutely loved this tavern style venue! The wooden interior and arches made Folkklubs feel authentic and rustic. There were tons of locals at the bar which is always a great sign.

Even on a Sunday night it was booming and we managed to nab seats close to the front to watch the live band. They were absolutely amazing! Towards the end of the set they invited members of the audience up on the stage to join in with the beats. They even handed out tambourines and bongo drums which was pretty cool and the atmosphere was great.

I absolutely love live music so this place absolutely did it for me. A cocktail (aperol spritz of course) was 6 euros and local wine about 4 euros. They also have 27 draft beers on tap!
